21And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.
“… much people gathered unto him:” He gathers them still. We hear remarkable stories of people in Islamic countries who have converted to Christianity, under penalty of death (“death to infidels”), people in communist China who are Christians – most of them in ‘underground’ and/or home churches – under penalty of prison or much worse. There is a sizeable number of Jews who have accepted Christ and refer to themselves as Messianic Jews. These widely divergent people are Christian because they heard the Word (Romans 10:17), knew it to be truth, and put their faith in Him.
Even at His birth, the angels sang, the shepherds came, and the three magi started a two-year journey to be gathered to Him. The Infant can’t see yet, nor speak, nor heal; He’s a baby as other babies are babies. Yet what He is, what He will do, where He will wear the crown, is all in that helpless little body.
Two thousand plus years ago they gathered; two thousand years later they gather still. Forward and back.
