4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Stephen Hawking was one of the finest minds of our generation. Brilliant man. But I will never forget something he said in 2011:
LONDON (RNS) Professor Stephen Hawking, one of the world’s most eminent scientists, says the concept of heaven is “a fairy story for people afraid of the dark.”
In an interview with London’s Guardian newspaper, the 69-year-old Cambridge University cosmologist said that as a victim of motor neuron disease he has lived under the shadow of death for the last 49 years, and it holds no fear for him. “I regard the brain as a computer that will stop working when its components fail,” he said, and he insisted that “there is no heaven or afterlife for broken-down computers — that is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark.”
That tremendous intellect could not understand that Christians are not afraid of the dark. We walk in the Light and rise to the Light.
