Remarkable, isn’t it, how different the world looks on Christmas day? It reminds me of when I lived up north. We’d stand at the window and watch the snow decorate the landscape and simply enjoy it’s beauty and simplicity. For the most part, the next day the snow looked decidedly different and less inspiring – but for that brief moment, watching the snow as it fell gently to earth, it was stunning and uplifting. That’s what Christmas day does – makes everything stunning and uplifting.
Birthdays. We all have one. Every year, Mama made a birthday cake and after dinner, we’d sing the happy birthday song to Jesus and enjoy His cake. I think of the three of them – Mama, snow, and Jesus – every Christmas. It never dims, it never grows old, it never fails to put a glow around the day and that special warmth in my heart.
Since it first appeared on television in 1965, I watch this little animated cartoon every year and every year I get a little teary as Linus tells us the meaning of Christmas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXmGLJ0S1Bs. For me, it’s right up there with A Christmas Carol (but only the one starring Alastair Sim!) and It’s A Wonderful Life.
This is charming and funny but listen to the children. They may not understand but they know the story and have made it their own. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suowe2czxcA&t=32s.
I saved this one for last – it’s the best. Tears every time I watch it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4fvMgNfN0I.
These are my three gifts for you. May they bring you the same joy they bring to me. Praying your Christmas is blessed with joy and filled with the hope the Christ Child brings.
Merry Christmas.
