And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
4But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9Not of works, lest any man should boast.
I love verse 6 – being in Christ Jesus. Every once in awhile, tv will give me a start because it reminds me of Scripture or a section of a Scripture story. Try to follow me here – hopefully you’ll find it worth the trip … When I saw the episode entitled Metamorphosis on the original Star Trek series, it hit me about ‘being in’ Jesus. The character in the episode is supported by an entity that surrounds him, engulfs him, communes with him and they are one when the entity surrounds him. The entity sees all of the human and the human has an understanding of the entity. I think to myself, that us! That’s us in Jesus! It’s a depiction of what it might look like as we say our prayers – we are in Him and He is in us. He sees all that we are and we, with prayer and Bible study, have an understanding of all that He has done for us, the changes in us that He has caused. It’s a kind of symbiosis. His kind.
I would be happier if verse 8 ran like this: For it is by God’s grace that ye are saved by your faith and not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.
