The 1928 Book of Common Prayer has a section, “Prayers and Thanksgivings” that go from page 35 to page 53. After Holy Communion, we recite the General Thanksgiving. Every prayer we pray should have at least a few words of thanks for all that has been given to us through the work of Jesus on the cross.
Corporate prayer is a wonderful thing but it’s the private prayers that we whisper or say internally that strike us the deepest, I think. It’s personal. It’s talking to the Father and Son heart to heart. It’s not just our needs we pray about (or, it shouldn’t be); it’s about the funny thing that happened that made you laugh or the thing that happened in the nick of time or how a problem was solved.
My special Thanksgiving prayer today is about this blog. The site was given to me by a dear friend in Nebraska upon whom I have never set eyes. My special prayer of thanks for the folks – known and unknown – who have visited here; some leave comments, some don’t but I’m thankful for all of them. I’m thankful that because of the blog, I double check online the verses for the day which reinforces my memory – and if you know me, you know I need all the help I can get when it comes to memory (hmmm – what did I have for breakfast?). The blog allows me to talk about the things I want to talk about – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; in my day to day there’s not much chance to do that with people so I can do it here
To my constant readers – and you know who you are! – a very humble thank you. You are my sisters indeed. You are my sisters of my heart. You make me laugh, you make me think, you keep my theological cap on straight. You are a great blessing to me; God was so good (He is always good) to have put you in my path, my journey is not alone but with you – we’re on this journey together and we can talk about the bumps in the road as well as that beautiful oasis.
I wish for you what I’m having right now, this minute. A Happy Thanksgiving.
