Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.
And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.
And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.
And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:
And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,
But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.
But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.
And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell.
And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.
Just real quick for clarity: this blog platform has some odd ‘helps’ that more hinder, sometimes, than help. It doesn’t read ‘red’ so I have to use the settings provided in order to show the direct words of Jesus. Sometimes the ‘helps’ stack up one over the other and to get to ‘bold’ and ‘italics’ I use, I have to get rid of other helps that hide them. When I do that, we wind up with the verses in black but bold and italicized. Just so you know, I’m not setting those verses as more special than those before of after, it’s just the constraints of the blog itself. Thanks for your patience and understanding.
There is so much information in these verses this post would have to be several pages long in order to cover it all so I’m just going to choose two verses to look at, namely 23 and 24. Keep these in mind when you read the Apostles’ Creed, where it is stated, “… was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell …” but also, I suspect, to sheol – ‘the place of the dead’, not necessarily the evil and wicked, but those who died waiting for the Messiah. While He was in hell, He preached the Gospel and saved those that would be saved.
For confirmation of this, look at 1Peter 3: 19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. 21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
