There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.
And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.
And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.
Last of all the woman died also.
Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.
And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.
Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said.
And after that they durst not ask him any question at all.
This is a verse that reads fast but one should slow down and consider exactly what is stated here: “35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:” This verse tells us that not everyone is going to heaven and not everyone is going to be resurrected.
We can’t – we shouldn’t – live our lives thinking that we can game God and make sure we’re one of the ones who do go to heaven, and we can’t – and shouldn’t – think that if we do x,y and z we will get all the promises of God. It’s not a game. What we can do – what we should do – is simply live our lives (simply live and live simply) following in the path Jesus has set for us and forget about rewards and such. Believe as a child, obey the Commandments, do unto others as you would have them do unto you, judge not lest you be judged by same measure, praise God, remember to pray our thanksgiving for all that has been done and given to us and rest in the knowledge that Jesus is our mediator and advocate. It’s all in God’s hand and we can’t second guess or game Him.
