But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:
2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.
4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
6 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.
11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
Titus is right; we are a peculiar people. Through God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost and the sacrament of baptism, we walk in two worlds – material and spiritual. Because we are human and fallen, these two worlds are ever in tension (there’s a better word for this state but I can’t think of it just now). We fight against the former and strive toward the later with a lot of falling down in between. But it’s a fight we’ve been called to and gladly take up. There is much joy in worship and contentment in prayer and we do these things both corporately and individually so that each day we are in the spiritual world as much as possible to help us fight against the temptations of the the material world.
We are a peculiar people; I pray that we are zealous of good works.
