To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.
But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject;
Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.
And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.
Faith without works is dead. (James 2:14-17) What are our works? Even small things are our works; standing in the check-out lane at the supermarket and the child in the cart behind you keeps bumping it’s stuffed toy against your back and you ignore it – that’s work. Someone tells you something you something you simply have no belief in and rather than argue you say it’s an interesting thought or concept – that’s work. You get into a fender-bender not of your making; you don’t curse at the other driver and carry on loud and abusive but ask to exchange insurance information – that’s work. There are thousands of instances in which we can work our ‘work’. They will know us by our fruits.
