Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
As I read this, 9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up, I think of this aid “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” (Phil 4:8) If we keep our minds in order, it will help to keep our hearts in order, and it will help us to be humble; not only in the eyes of the Lord, but also in the eyes of those we travel around – supermarket, dry cleaner, the line at the movie theater, the waiting room, etc. Study on those good things and keep reminding yourself you are not all that and a bag of chips. Works for me.
